Biography

Cellist Ayoun Alexandra Kim, student at the Juilliard School, is an active chamber musician, soloist, and advocate for community engagement through music. In 2022, she became the winner of the Yamaho Young Performing Artist Competition, where she was the only string instrument winner, the Artist Presentation Society Competition, and the Farwell Trust Prize from the Musicians Club of Women Competition. Kim has attended festivals such as Sarasota Music Festival, Kneisel Hall, Orford Academy, AlpenKammerMusik, Verão Classico, and the Sommerakademie Mozarteum where she had the privilege to perform for cellists such as Laurence Lesser, Steven Doane, Myung-Wha Chung, Frans Helmerson, Rebecca Gilliver, Gary Hoffman, and Maria Kliegel. Since 2021 she has been on the artist roster at the Seven Hills Chamber Music Festival, bringing a wide range of chamber music in VA through free concerts and educational events in local schools. Most recently, she was invited to the Vivace Music Foundation for the 2022 Festival as a participant and a Junior Faculty member. Kim received her Bachelor’s degree from the Juilliard School in 2020 and is continuing her studies at Juilliard for her Master’s degree under the tutelage of Natasha Brofsky and Astrid Schween as a recipient of the Jerome L. Greene fellowship and C.V. Starr scholarship. Previously she studied with Hans Jørgan Jensen in the Chicago area. Passionate about sharing music outside of the concert halls, she has been a Morse Teaching Artist Fellow at Juilliard for three years to contribute to making classical music more accessible.

"If it was not for your generous donation, not only could I have not attended the Juilliard school because of financial reasons, but I would not have had the courage to attend such a prestigious school. I thank you for lessening my burden upon my parents, but I would like to thank you even more for giving me another chance to continue my musical aspirations. Words cannot fully describe how thankful I am for this opportunity, and I would like to thank you once again for supporting my education and dreams. Hopefully, someday, I will be able to impact someone’s life as much as you did."
